MLB Betting Odds 2023: Los Angeles Dodgers Open as World Series Favorite

MLB Betting Odds 2023 Los Angeles Dodger Open as World Series Favorite

The Houston Astros won the World Series in six games over the Philadelphia Phillies less than a week ago, capping off the MLB season. While the memories of last season are still fresh, oddsmakers have already moved on to the next season by posting World Series odds for 2023. Despite winning the World Series, the Astros were not installed as favorites for next season.

The Dodgers begin as World Series favorites

The Los Angeles Dodgers are the betting favorites to win the World Series for the fourth consecutive season. Los Angeles has made the playoffs for ten consecutive seasons, winning at least 91 games in each of those seasons. They’ve won more than 100 games in four of the last five 162-game seasons.

During that time, however, they have only won one World Series. It happened during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season, and many people have put an asterisk next to that championship because of the circumstances.

They won 111 games last season and finished with the best regular-season record in baseball. They were dominant, but they fell short in the playoffs yet again. In the NLDS, they were defeated in four games by the San Diego Padres. Despite this, the Dodgers are a +500 favorite to win the World Series. As a result, they are the clear betting favorite heading into the offseason.

The Astros are ahead of the rest of the pack, but the offseason is uncertain

The Houston Astros just won the World Series, and while they aren’t the betting favorites to win it again, they are unquestionably among the top contenders. Houston has the second best odds to win the World Series at +700.

Justin Verlander recently declined his player option, making him a free agent. He could still return, but even if he doesn’t, Houston’s pitching depth was on display as they won the World Series. Houston should be right in the mix again, with or without the likely Cy Young winner.

Some of the top contenders have massive free agents on the horizon. Trea Turner could leave the Dodgers. As previously stated, the Astros may lose Verlander. The Atlanta Braves have the third best odds at +800, but they could be without Dansby Swanson.

The New York Yankees have the fourth best odds at +900. The future of Aaron Judge looms large. If he joins another team, the Yankees become a much less appealing bet. The same could be said for the Mets, who are currently favored 10-to-1. Chris Bassitt and Jacob deGrom both opted out of their contracts. Brandon Nimmo is also a free agent.

If these teams lose their free-agent stars, they are unlikely to remain steadfast. Where would they turn? It may be prudent to wait and see how the offseason unfolds, but doing so may result in the loss of some potential value.
