The best case scenario is that LeBron James is one of the greatest players of all time and a basketball genius. He possesses the mental and physical prowess to lead this team to a postseason berth and possibly even a run at the championship if he is healthy enough to do so. While it’s true that he’s 37 years old and the Lakers didn’t make the playoffs last year, it’s also true that they just won the championship two seasons ago. Anthony Davis’s well-being and his ability to stay on the court for an extended period of time will determine how successful they are, but he still has a lot of untapped potentials.
The worst-case scenario is that injuries ruin the 2021-22 season for the Los Angeles Lakers, but even when their “big three” players are on the court together, they are ineffective. The Lakers only posted an 11-10 record across those 21 contests. In addition, the net rating was -3.5 when they were both on the court at the same time. Even with a new head coach and strategy, this season’s prospects do not look promising in light of what has just been revealed.
The Bet: Lakers under 44.5 wins
If I were betting, I would go with the under 44.5 wins. The error margin is just way too small due to the ages of the All-Stars as well as their recent propensity for getting injured. On top of that, the competition in the Western Conference is at an extremely high level. I do think there is a possibility that things will go their way and they will have a successful tournament, but if I had to choose, I would rather play the percentages.
